I had the same issue, turns out a magnet from the hardware store did the trick. So, while yes I did still have to have the ugly big box hanging off the edges of all the doors and windows, I was at least able to get a slim magnet drilled into the door frame (the little circular shiny kind from the hardware store) and then painted over it.
